How to Find Exercising Enjoyable

While we all know that exerciseis good for us. But it can feel tedious, overwhelming or even boring. For a lot of people, exercise can be attached to a lot of complicated or difficult feelings. This is totally normal. In order to move past this - one important thing to remember is that exercise or just movement, is good for you. So the goal should be finding movement you enjoy.

Here are some tips on how to find workouts that are both effective and fun.

Redefine your exercise/ movement goals

For a lot of people, exercise has always been linked to the goal of losing weight or being a certain size. This leads to a cycle of feeling motivated, working out for a short amount of time, losing motivation or getting frustrated, and then giving up. This cycle is not beneficial and requires a shift in mindset. Instead of linking your workout to a specific weight goal, think about exercise as a way to improve your overall health or just feel good.

Try a variety of activities

The first step in finding workouts that you enjoy is to try different types of exercise. Don't limit yourself to just one type of workout, such as running or weightlifting. Experiment with different activities like yoga, dance, swimming, cycling, or rock climbing. By trying a variety of exercises, you can discover which ones you enjoy the most.

Trust Yourself

The person who knows you best is yourself. You probably already know a bit of what you like and don’t like. If you hate high intensity workouts or doing exercises that include jumping - don’t do them! Or if you know you like fitness classes, you can find both online courses and in your area. This doesn’t mean you should shut yourself off to new things, but do trust that you know yourself.

Find a workout buddy

Having a workout buddy can make exercising more fun and help keep you accountable. Find a friend or family member who enjoys similar activities and schedule regular workouts together. Not only will you have someone to share the experience with, but you'll also be more likely to show up for your workouts.

Focus on what feels good

When trying out new workouts, pay attention to how your body feels. Do you feel energized and invigorated after a workout, or drained and exhausted? Listen to your body and choose activities that make you feel strong and empowered.

Make it a social activity

Working out doesn't have to be a solitary activity. Consider joining a sports league or fitness group or participating in community events like charity walks or runs. Not only will you be getting exercise, but you'll also be meeting new people and building social connections.

Don't be afraid to mix it up

Even if you find a workout that you love, it's important to switch things up every now and then. Trying new activities can keep your workouts interesting and prevent boredom from setting in. Don't be afraid to experiment with different workouts and mix things up to keep your routine fresh and exciting.
